Emigrating to Australia from Scotland after World War I, Samuel Robertson quickly identified a need for quality lacquer paints and thinners. Working with a local chemist, he developed a formula and began making small batches in his backyard.
After making an impact on the Sydney market, Samuel decided to leave his job as a car salesman and rent a small factory in Bondi and so began Robertson & Co Pty Ltd.
After expanding the company, Robertson & Co moved to the current St Marys location in 1969.
In 1984, Robertson & Co began supplying retail chain Amazing Paint Discounts, manufacturing their home brand Permalast, eventually becoming Amazing Paints' largest supplier before becoming part of the Amazing Paints group in 1987
In 1991, Robertson & Co Paints acquired Monaro Paints in Queanbeyan, makers of Montone Quality Paints.
In 2001, Robertson & Co developed the Blitz range of problem solving paints. Designed to overcome specific issues that are encountered by painters on a daily basis.
Through increased demand, mergers and acquisitions, Robertson & Co continued to grow and in 2004 listed on the Australian Stock Exchange as part of Retail Cube Group (RCG)
In 2006 Robertson's Paints was bought back from RCG and has been in family hands ever since.
Currently run by brothers Aaron and Nathan Hext, Robertson's Paints continues to grow, constantly looking to improve on the products they make, develop new products and expand into different markets.
In 2017, Robertson's Paints acquired Brinlay Paints, developing this well establish brand into the two tiered trade paint range now available.
Today, Robertson's, Blitz and Brinlay are available from an increasing number of distributors throughout Australia.
