Linseed Oil Glazing Putty

Robertson's Putty is a quality linseed oil based putty suitable for wooden surfaces. It is ideal for glazing timber frames and filling nail holes and small cracks in timber floors. Available in a range of colours to match common timbers used in window and floor construction.

Timber Window Frame Glazing: The surface to be puttied must be clean and dry. When reglazing, old putty must be removed back to bare timber. The timber window rebate to be puttied should be primed with ONE LIGHT COAT of Robertson's Oil Based Wood Primer OR a light application of linseed oil. Heavy priming pevents the putty drying by stopping the normal absorption of the putty oil into the timber frame. Note: Priming is not required for use with non-absorbent timber, such as Jarrah.

Application: Knead putty thoroughly before use to ensure the linseed oil is mixed evenly through the putty. Apply with a putty knife, pushing putty firmly into the window frame and smooth off. Putty dries slowly by exposure to air and can take up to six weeks to firm through. Allow putty to dry for at least two weeks before painting Robertson's Oil Based Undercoat or at least four weeks before painting with Robertson's Acrylic Undercoat.

Note: Putty is not a structural medium. Glass should be fixed against the frame using pins or silicone glass adhesive. For more information please refer to the Product Data Sheet.

Clean Up: Wipe off excess putty with a dry cloth then clean tools and hands with soap and water. Replace clear plastic protective disc and reseal container promptly to prevent putty hardening in the container.

Timber Filler: When used to fill nail holes or SMALL cracks in timber, ensure the surface is clean and dry and apply direct to bare timber with a putty knife and smooth off. Lightly hand sand after 24 hours, taking care as the putty will still be soft. Not suitable for large cracks in timber or where a flexible finish is required. Warning: Some clear coatings react to linseed oil, particularly water based and two pack finishes. Check with the manufacturer BEFORE using Robertson's Linseed Oil Putty.
